Here are some tips on this year’s bedroom trends to help you create the bedroom you’ve always wanted.
Colors
This year is all about experimenting with color. Darker colors are all the rage. It’s about mauve, brown greens and beige. Get out of plain decor by using patterns and stripes. Be bold and try something completely different. As well as paint and wallpaper, you can use new colors in your bedding. Make your bed sumptuous and inviting. Use plump cushions and soft throws that are still popular.
Furniture
Rattan has made a comeback. It was very popular in the 1970s and it’s in our stores again this year. It’s a natural material that’s lightweight and looks stylish. It’s the ideal material for the bedroom. Rattan bed bases and headboards can be matched with bedside tables. If you just want a statement piece, look for a rounded rattan chair. Perfect for sitting and reading a book or just somewhere to throw your clothes.
Lighting
The lighting in your bedroom should be soft. This creates the right atmosphere for relaxation. A dimmer switch is ideal as you can lower the level of lighting as bed-time approaches. Feather pendant lights are a good idea. They give out a soft calming light which is perfect for the bedroom. Do you find it hard to sleep because light is getting into your bedroom from the outside? Think about installing shutters. Solid shutters are not only stylish, but they will make your bedroom completely dark. They are also useful for blocking out noise.light is getting into your bedroom from the outside? Think about installing shutters. Flooring
Plain carpet is fine. But, if you want to give your bedroom a bit of a lift then go for a pattern or a stripe in different colors. It will brighten your room and add a bit of personality. If you prefer a wooden floor, then invest in good quality rugs. You can lay them on the sides and at the bottom of your bed for cozy toes in the mornings.
Storage
Short of space? Pick out smaller bedside tables. Choose one with one drawer to keep your bits and pieces in and a shelf below to stack your nightly reading matter. Add a lamp and you will have everything you need close to the bed without taking up too much space. Mirrored wardrobes are not as desirable as they once were. Rather than having a full length mirrored door, look for a design with mirrored panels. You’ll still get the feeling of space but with a little more style. Alcoves has great spaces to put up shelves. You can use them to showcase your favourite things. Or use the shelves to stack boxes that have your accessories inside. If you have a wall with an alcove either side, put the shelves and place your bed in the middle. That way you’ve made the most of the available space.
